September has rocked! We finished up Idol auditions in LA and I am proud to say they were a huge success. The guest judges all brought something unique to the table and helped us pick the best contestants out there. I am also very excited about January and the addition of Ellen DeGeneres to the panel. I have a feeling Season 9 will be a great one.
Mid-month, I went to New York City for Fashion Week. It was my first time ever. I was lucky enough to see shows for Nicole Miller, Badgley Mischka, Pamella Roland, G Star and Lacoste. I was struck by the commonalities between songwriting and fashion. Both are pulling from creativity and reflect a certain mood and perspective. Watching the runway was like watching moving art. Every show had different music, lights and drama. It was truly inspiring. I was also lucky enough to host an event at Vera Wang’s Mercer Street store to support Fashion’s Night Out and encourage consumers to start shopping again.
Recently, I’ve been working on some new songs with The Band Perry, a great new Country music trio out of Nashville. They have some incredible songs that I think could put them on the map this year. I also wrote with Tom Higgenson from Plain White T’s (while I was in Chicago on auditions), and have some other exciting sessions planned for this month…

Hi Kara you adorable thing. I think they got a quick shot of you on the red carpet at the Emmy’s but it was too quick. Glad to hear about the Idol auditions and I think Ellen will make a this year not only different but fun! She is very witty and respectful. I think they made a great pick and she will bring humor to the show. I think she will put a different spin on the show. Have a good time! I know there will be some hysterical moments. Oh and fashion week sounds like it was fun!

PS I wonder if that song “Already Gone” that Kelly sang at the Diva show will be a huge hit. I’m thinking it will. What an outstanding performance!

Sounds like you had a blast at fashion week in NYC! lol
I saw the videos of you there and at the Emmys, you looked amazing =]
Can’t wait to hear the songs you work on with these new artists!
Hopefully we will all see you coming out with an album!
Well for the moment I can settle of getting that duet I read you are doing with Nick Lachey that comes out soon but I really hope to see your album soon =]

Hi again Kara. I just heard your rendition of Lost on the front page. I have to say that no one can sing your songs better than you. So heartfelt and so meaningful. I just love to hear you sing them. That song has been in my head for a few days!

I just head the song “I had it all”. You and Hodges wrote it! Nice, great song!! I knew it had to be some talented songwriters!! Katharin McPhee is lucky!
